"Born in Bryn Mawr, I was raised in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I grew up in a very rural neighborhood that I loved. Most Saturdays I spent taking art and craft classes at the local art center and my first experience with plein air painting was with my Uncle Tom who taught me how to paint fluffy clouds and happy trees in our back yard. In high school I continued my love for making things, this time going into the city of Philadelphia to the College of Textile and Science and some drawing classes at Tyler School of Art. All this was a continuation of my love for making things, and at the time still considered a hobby for me.  I was very interested in math and problem solving, and wanted to go into corporate law. Well that changed! My parents friends son, who was doing exceptionally well in sculpture at Tyler, mentioned this school RISD to me. I was obsessed. I applied to two schools Duke and RISD. I didn't  get into Duke, but the art flood doors were open, and I spent the next four years with a wonderful group of peers. I was a critical thinker now. After graduation I moved to Philadelphia and then to New York City where I lived for over twenty  years. While working in the apparel industry my passion for drawing never left me and again found myself taking more art classes on Saturdays and expanding into painting. I was very fortunate to have studied with some great artists at SVA and the Academy of Figurative Art.  I was working for an attorney in Tribeca when a finance friend said "You can take the person out of the studio but you can't take the artist out of the person." (these were not his exact words but I got the gist)
It's been a bit to get here and I am grateful to be able to paint full time now.

With palette knives,  I start to lay paint thick across the canvas. Layering and scraping, creating what I have seen with what I have felt. I like to push the boundaries between realism and abstraction, using broad fields of color to create depth. I continue to add elements that will tell a narrative. This could be people, trees, the sun, the sea, it could be certain colors to convey a mood. My work is a visual diary of life. You can find my paintings at my studio gallery in Long Branch and other galleries throughout New Jersey, and in Jupiter Florida."
